Travel Information

Getting to Konstanz by plane

Zurich Airport (CH)

Switzerland’s largest airport is just a 45 minutes car ride away. Trains take 60 minutes and leave every hour.

Bodensee Airport Friedrichshafen (DE)

This smaller airport is about 60 minutes from Konstanz by car, or 75 minutes by public transport (catamaran, train and/or bus).

Munich Airport (DE)

There is a S-Bahn (municipal rail line) to the central bus station, from there you may taket a coach to Konstanz (ca. 3.5 hours’ ride). Alternatively, an S-Bahn train will take you to München Hauptbahnhof (Munich main train station), from where you may take a train to Konstanz (ca. 4.5 hours).

Stuttgart Airport (DE)

From Stuttgart airport, you may likewise take a train or a coach to Konstanz. Coaches depart directly at the Airport and take ca. 2:45 hours. To travel by train, take the S-Bahn S2 or S3 to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (main station) and transfer to a train to Konstanz (via Singen; ca. 2:45 hours).

St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport (CH)

Another smaller airport, St. Gallen-Altenrhein can be reached by car in 60 minutes and by train from St. Gallen in 90 minutes.

Getting to Konstanz by train

Konstanz Hauptbahnhof can be reached coming from Germany via Singen (with DB), as well as directly from Switzerland (with SBB).

Getting to Konstanz by coach

Konstanz can be reached by coach at two stops: Konstanz Döbele (close to the city center) and Konstanz Allmannsdorf (close to the ferry to Meersburg). Tickets and timetables can be found on the website of Flixbus.

Getting to Konstanz by car

Konstanz can also be reached by car. Coming from Stuttgart, take the A81 via Singen, then the B33 to Konstanz. Coming from Zurich, take the A1 to Winterthur and then the A7 to Konstanz. From Munich, take the A96 to Lindau and then the B31 to Konstanz – you can either take the car ferry from Meersburg to Konstanz or drive by the lakeside which will take a bit longer. Note: ferry tickets can only be paid for in cash!

Getting around Konstanz

You can navigate around Konstanz by using the Stadtwerke city buses – find the timetables here.

Or do it like the locals and discover the city by bike – you can rent the public Konrad bikes for 9,- EUR a day and pick them up or leave them at several points in the city. One pick-up station (Schänzlebrücke) is very close to our conference venue.

As Konstanz is rather small, you can also reach most places in and near the city center on foot.

In the form of the Welcome Centre, the University of Konstanz provides a helpdesk to assist you in all questions regarding visa and travelers arriving from abroad. You may find them online here, or contact them via e-mail.

Arrival

It is a nice and not too long walk along the water from the city center to the Bodenseeforum. Alternatively, you may take the city bus or a cab. The Bodenseeforum has its own bus stop: “Bodenseeforum/IHK”. Take bus line 4/13 or 13/4. Bus line 4/13 leaves Bodenseeforum in the direction of the city center. The line 13/4 runs in the opposite direction, i.e. from the city center to Bodenseeforum. The exact departure times can be found in the Stadtwerke timetable here.

Accessibility

Access to the Bodenseeforum is barrier-free – all entrance doors are threshold-free and have sufficient width for wheelchair users. Inside the building, there handicapped-accessible elevators to change floors.

The building also has an inductive hearing system. The infrared system ensures good speech intelligibility for the hearing impaired. If you wish to make use of the inductive hearing system, please contact the conference organizers.
