Olga Jerjomina

Olga Jerjomina is a PhD candidate at Witten/Herdecke University in Germany, where she studies ethnic cleavages and political behaviour. She is particularly interested in how linguistic identities influence majority and minority groups, and under which conditions these identities can be activated by external actors. Empirically, her work combines large-scale comparative survey data with historical and archival documents. Her work focuses on Western and Eastern Europe, with particular attention to the Baltic states. Originally from Riga, Latvia, Olga holds an MSc in Political Science from Leiden University. Before starting her PhD, she worked in Brussels, gaining hands-on experience in European affairs. She also teaches undergraduate courses on nationalism and ethnic politics at Heinrich Heine University Dusseldorf (HHU). In 2026, she will spend three months as a visiting researcher at the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) in Flensburg to further deepen her expertise in minority politics.
