Lukas Lehner is an Assistant Professor at the University of Edinburgh. He completed his PhD at the University of Oxford in 2024. Prior to that, he studied at MIT, UC Berkeley, the London School of Economics, and WU Vienna, and worked for the OECD Chief Economist and the International Labour Organization. Lehner’s research focuses on economic and social policies in a changing world of work, with an emphasis on unemployment and inequality. He led on the design and evaluation of the Marienthal Job Guarantee pilot, which offered jobs to long-term unemployed people and informed the European Commission’s €23 million investment in job guarantee pilots across Europe. His research was recognized by several awards including the Upjohn Institute Dissertation Prize, the LERA Best Dissertation Award, and the ESRC Prize for Outstanding Early Career Impact.
