Juan-Carlos Castillo is full professor at the Department of Sociology, Universidad de Chile. Currently, he is the principal researcher of the project “Market justice and social welfare deservingness” (ANID-FONDECYT 2025-2028). He is the president of the Research Committee 42 (Social Psychology) of the International Sociological Association (ISA), and member of the international advisory board of the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB). He obtained his PhD in Sociology from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, where he studied the legitimacy of socioeconomic inequality through the analysis of comparative survey data. His research deals with distributive justice, citizen education, social cohesion, and open science.
