Northwestern University

Jack Garigliano is a PhD candidate in political science at Northwestern University who studies how the changing nature of work in postindustrial economies, particularly in low-wage service sectors, is affecting political participation, behavior, and policymaking. His research primarily focuses on the United States as an extreme case of labor market precarity, with implications for the continued liberalization of other wealthy democracies. Fieldwork for his dissertation consists of original survey data and in-depth interviews with low-wage workers to better conceptualize the perceptions that link labor market characteristics to political behavior. Before attending Northwestern, he worked at Microsoft and several other firms while navigating precarious labor markets in the tech industry.
