Gökay Demir is a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB).
He studied Political Science and Economics at Goethe University Frankfurt and completed his master’s degree in Economics at the University of Düsseldorf, where he also earned his Ph.D. in Economics in 2023.
From 2018 to 2023, he worked as a researcher at the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research. From June 2023 to May 2025, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA).His research focuses on labor economics and applied microeconometrics. He studies the extent of labor market frictions and their impact on the effectiveness of labor market institutions and wage inequality. His current work examines how such frictions shape the transition from school to work, and how labor market institutions influence this process.
