Giacomo Melli is a DPhil researcher in Sociology at the University of Oxford. His work spans social stratification, comparative political sociology, and the study of how socioeconomic inequalities shape political attitudes, engagement, and participation across contemporary democracies. He examines how these inequalities are transmitted across generations and develop over the life course, producing enduring gaps in civic and electoral involvement. His broader research explores how social origins and changing structural conditions shape patterns of political engagement over time. His work has been published in the British Journal of Sociology, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, Social Science Research, and the Journal of European Public Policy, among others.
