Is English an inequitable language?
Daisy Powell is Associate Professor in the Psychology of Written Language at the Institute of Education, University of Reading. Her research has addressed the development of literacy skills in young children, with a focus on both the cognitive and also the family and societal factors that account for individual differences in literacy and in educational outcomes more broadly. Her work has investigated reading in English, and the specific challenges this idiosyncratic orthography brings to learning, and she is also interested in literacy development in multilingual contexts.
