Abhyudaya Tyagi (Abhu) is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University, specializing in comparative politics. His research interests include socioeconomic inequality, political violence, and democratic backsliding in South Asia. Abhu is currently working on a dissertation that examines the sources of elite persistence in democracies and the strategies economic elites use to preserve political power in electoral systems. His other research includes projects and collaborations on the categorization of political violence, efforts to reduce misinformation, and the consequences of political violence. Abhu has previously contributed to reports by the Centre for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH) on hate speech in India. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from New York University Abu Dhabi
